John E. Gray  
   

John Gray’s career in the electric power industry as an engineer, executive, energy consultant and expert witness spans more than 30 years and includes developing, managing, engineering, and constructing major, multi-million dollar projects, in both the domestic and international power markets

As an energy consultant, Mr. Gray has provided his services to a number of clients including major oil companies, gas pipeline companies and power project developers. He has advised clients on contractual, financial and technical issues on projects that include such technologies as gas-fired combined cycle power plants, compressed air energy storage and wind power. He has provided expert witness testimony and litigation support on energy-related cases, and has worked with law firms to assist in settlement negotiations.

Prior to founding Energy Advisory Group, Inc., Mr. Gray was an executive officer with Destec Energy, Inc. in Houston, Texas. As Vice President-International Markets, he was responsible for leading Destec into the international marketplace. Under his leadership, Destec opened its first international office in Paris and secured the exclusive development rights for two power projects in Europe totaling 625 MW and requiring more than $600 million in financing. He was also successful in establishing Destec’s presence in Latin America and Asia. As Destec’s Director of Commercial Development in the U.S., he developed and closed the financing on five cogeneration projects totaling 860 MW and requiring more than $750 million in financing.

At Power Systems Engineering, Inc., Mr. Gray served in a variety of roles including Project Engineer, Project Manager and Manager of Project Feasibility. He was directly involved with the estimating, bidding, permitting, engineering, equipment procurement, and construction of an array of projects involving gas turbines, steam turbines, heat recovery boilers, and gas turbine regenerators. He also completed numerous studies for clients to determine the feasibility of installing cogeneration plants at a variety of host facilities such as oil refineries, chemical plants, manufacturing plants, institutions, food processing, and pulp and paper mills.

While employed at the Lower Colorado River Authority, he was a field engineer during the construction and start-up of two gas-fired power plants and was the supervising mechanical engineer during the planning and engineering phases of a two-unit, 1200 MW coal-fired power station.

Mr. Gray graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Turnaround Management Association, and the Gulf Coast Power Association.
