
Louis J. Dorey
Louis Dorey has more than 20 years of combined experience in the energy industry and commercial real estate. A specialist in the areas of restructuring and mergers and acquisitions, he has extensive experience in formulating, communicating and implementing innovative solutions to help reconcile the competing interests of parties. He has participated in merger and acquisitions and sales transactions in the energy industry valued in excess of $6 billion.
As the President of Marketing and Origination of Dynegy, Inc., Mr. Dorey was responsible for streamlining and reorganizing the commercial and industrial group into one successful business unit to focus on significant growth opportunities. Due to his success, he accepted the position of Executive Vice President of Finance/Chief Financial Officer during a time of financial crisis in the organization. Under his leadership, he was able to cut operational costs, reset the financial plans given new financial and market realities, and developed and launched a $2 billion capital restructuring plan. As a financial consultant to Dynegy, he also participated in the final $1.6 billion bank refinancing.
As Chief Financial Officer and General Counsel of Peebles Management Company, Mr. Dorey led all financial dealings related to the development and acquisition of over one million square feet of commercial real estate in Houston, Texas. He also led the effort to sell several projects and restructured debt related to four projects valued in excess of $30 million.
Following his tenure with Peebles Management Company, Mr. Dorey established a real estate consulting practice in which he evaluated several office building and apartment complex acquisition opportunities for third party investors. He also successfully restructured the personal real estate holdings of a major real estate developer through utilization of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy. These holdings included numerous shopping centers, hotels, and apartment complexes with a total value in excess of $200 million. In addition, he renegotiated several loans and settled many lawsuits. As a result, the developer was able to retain a substantial portion of his assets.
Mr. Dorey holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Oklahoma and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from The University of Texas School of Law. He is an Attorney at Law and a member of the Texas State Bar, and is also a Certified Public Accountant.
